Katsuo no Tataki (Seared Tuna)_Let's taste harvest from the sea in Kochi

Katsuo no Tataki ( Seared Tuna) is one of the specialty in Kochi Prefecture.

We can buy seared tuna even at supermarket most area in Japan. But I like Kochi’s Tataki the best. As a warm current runs off the coast of Kochi Prefecture, there is rich in marine products.
It is a little similar to rare beef steak. The only surface of the tuna is seared and the rest of it is the same as Sasimi (=sliced raw fish).

If you visit Kochi, you can eat Tataki at a lot of restaurants in Kochi City. Tataki is usually served with sliced green onion, onion, Jananese radish, and raw garlic!
Tataki is seasoned with ponzu (soy source containing citrus juice) or just sprinkle salt on it.

Tataki seared by straw smells roasting aroma, so the number of restaurants where they are using straw is increasing.
There are even some restrants and eating place where you can sear Tataki by yourself (Searing Tataki experience) with additional charge.

Recently there are also arranged menu like Tataki burger , Tataki salad, Tataki udon(=thick wheat-floured noodle) and Tataki sushi roll.

The fish which is used for tataki is Bonito correctly. High quality Bonito is caught by one-hook fishing. It is said that the bonito is more tasty compare to one caught by net.

If you visit Kochi, you should eat genuine Tataki.
